Garbage Disposal and Recycling

With the introduction of Metro Vancouver's Zero Waste Challenge in 2008, we are requiring all Acacia Gardens' residents to follow these new guidelines for disposing of your garbage and recyclables. Your cooperation will help us reduce our cost and penalties that the City of Burnaby charges the strata and ultimately, you, as a resident.

Guidelines In Throwing Away Your Garbage

  • To reduce the excessive amount of garbage and smell that collects during the weekend, please try to bring your garbage down during mid-week and not only during the weekend.
  • Do not leave garbage on the ground. Only garbage that completely fits inside the container is accepted.
  • Do not throw the following items into the garbage containers:
    • Cardboard, newsprint, office paper
    • Large appliances and large furniture
    • Gypsum drywall
    • Yard trimmings, garden waste, and Christmas trees
    • Blue Box recyclables including beverage containers (except milk)
    • Car tires and car batteries
    • Paint, solvents, flammable liquids, gasoline, and pesticides
    • Oil, oil filters and empty oil containers
    • Electronic waste including computers, printers, monitors, and TVs
  • These items can be dropped off at the City of Burnaby Recycling Depot. Please contact 604-RECYCLE or
    http://www.rcbc.bc.ca/for recycling locations.

Guidelines In Recycling

  • Flatten all cardboard and ensure only materials that are part of the recycling program are deposited in thebins otherwise there is a fee that is charged back to the strata to remove these items.
  • These items can be recycled in the recycling containers:
    • Newsprint, magazines, office paper, cardboard, pizza boxes, phone books and paper products
    • Plastic bottles and jugs (types 1,2,4 and 5)
    • Hard plastic products
    • Glass bottles and jars
    • Metal can, aluminum foil, foil container
    • All ready-to-drink beverage containers including pop cans, juice bottles, and tetra-paks
Thank you for doing your part in keeping our environment clean.
